Main: Conventions of EDM
The Electronic Dance Music genre is about music that doesn't tell a narrative in its videos. They are mainly about showing vast numbers of fans packed into a small venue with lots of flashing lights. Showing off their concerts is more appealing to the audience and promotes the gigs which the artists perform. The face of EDM are mainly young adults (20-30) which will be the target audience for this genre. The music appeals to the younger audience more than an older audience which are not expected to listen to this genre of music. Most photos show the packed venue with the DJ performing, or a profile photo of the artist on a plain background. The clothing which is worn by the EDM DJs is very simple and it doesn't matter the big brands being on show for the audience to see.
Some other conventions of EDM:
Summarised
Upbeat videos
Narrative not usually connected with lyrics
Lots of dancing and routines
Club/party scenes
Bright colours
